Kaka‘ako Media is a small digital marketing & creative media company focused on helping businesses adapt to the ever-changing digital climate.

Kaka‘ako, a location that has undergone rapid changes itself, is a metaphor for the ever-changing digital climate. Long before it was the epicenter for local modern culture, Kaka‘ako was once home to salt ponds, a commodity worth gold in ancient times.

Because this location is significant to the company, I wanted to incorporate a little bit of its history into the logo. I chose to create a monogram of the letters K and M. I shaped the letter M to resemble and symbolize the salt ponds of Kaka‘ako referencing the history but also a metaphor for the value of what the company provides. The mark also resembles binary code (1's and 0's), which symbolize their specialization in digital media and technology.
